ACINNE Eastern Cone Conference
ELT & SEL - English Language Teaching & Social-Emotional Learning
About the Conference
The ACINNE Eastern Cone Conference is a regional event for English-language teachers of the Cultura Inglesa community. Organised by Cultura Inglesa Recife Zona Sul, it brings educators together for a full day of professional development, fresh classroom ideas, and the exchange of experience.
This year's theme, ELT & SEL, explores how language teaching and social-emotional learning reinforce each other and how more humane, inclusive and effective classrooms make better language learners.
What the Day Looks Like
The programme combines two formats:
- Plenaries - two sessions delivered to all participants together. These set the tone for the day and address themes relevant to the whole community.
- Workshops - hands-on parallel sessions. At three points in the day, four workshops run at the same time, and participants choose the one they want to join.
In total, the conference features 2 plenaries and 12 workshops, all delivered by colleagues and invited speakers from across the region.
Call for Proposals — present at the conference
We invite teachers to submit proposals to present, in one of two categories:
- a plenary, for the whole audience, or
- a workshop, a parallel hands-on session.
How proposals are selected. Every proposal, plenary and workshop alike, is reviewed by our panel of Academic Directors. The panel selects the strongest proposals for each format and contacts the chosen presenters directly to confirm their session and time slot. Submitting a proposal does not guarantee a place; selection is competitive and based on relevance to the theme, clarity of the session plan, and practical value for teachers.
Submission deadline: June 30, 2026.

Invitation
Dear participant,
If you are interested in presenting at the ACINNE Eastern Cone Conference on July 31st, 2026, we invite you to submit a proposal using the form at the bottom of this page.
Below you will find a model presentation plan on the topic of intonation. We hope it serves as inspiration as you prepare your own session.
Model Session
Synopsis:
Intonation—the “music of speech”—is often overlooked in language classrooms, yet it is crucial for conveying attitude, emotion, and meaning. This session moves beyond theory to provide English teachers with practical, enjoyable techniques for teaching intonation patterns (falling, rising, fall-rise).
Participants will explore how to integrate intonation into speaking activities, use gestures to mark pitch, and help learners move from a “robotic” delivery to natural, engaging English. The session focuses on raising learner awareness and reducing anxiety in producing communicative — rather than perfect — intonation.
Presenter Goals
- Move intonation from theory to practical classroom application.
- Provide attendees with at least three actionable activities they can use the next day.
- Increase awareness of how intonation conveys meaning, emotion, and attitude.
